Week 22 - More finishes

Week 22 - Feb 11-15

We are getting near the end, which means a series of mini-crises almost daily.

2 weeks ago:
Tuesday - the cabinets for the basement bathroom are too big. Why, might you ask? Well, the bathroom was 2" narrower than designed, because a wall had to be furred out for electrical. This means that the cheapest things to do is to swap out the 27" sink base with a 24" sink base. I got a discount on the new piece, but it's still another extra - anyone looking for a 27" white shaker vanity sink base? ha!
Wednesday - the toilet is on backorder and we won't get it for at least 3 weeks. This one isn't so bad because it's our second bathroom and I don't have time to pick a different toilet, so I'm going to just leave this one alone.

Our bench is blue! It wasn't suppose to be blue, it was suppose to be white, but after a few days of looking at it, we decided that we actually liked it. Contractor added a coating of polyurethane to protect it from scratches since the darker color will show more scratches than it would have if it was white.

Bathroom casework partially installed. The missing piece is the one that ended up having to be replaced because it was too big. This was because the west wall had to be furred out, which reduced the width of the room by 3".

New washer and dryer! The delivery guys wanted a lot extra to put them downstairs, so they ended up in the kitchen.

Week 10 - More Masonry and Framing

I can't believe that we've been under construction for 10 weeks now! The whole schedule is only 19 weeks so we've hit the 1/2 way mark. This week was finishing up the masonry on the addition, starting the masonry for the garden walls, and some interior framing work, namely the stairs. I think that the brick is the most labor-intensive part. When I went by on Friday, there were 6 guys there laying brick! The side walls of the addition are done. I think that they are waiting for the windows to do the piers on the north facade. From Friday, laying the brick for the east garden wall. End of Week 1

The end of last week saw the removal of most of the wood paneling in the basement and the abatement of the asbestos floor tiles, also in the basement. I was told by the contractor to stay away, but I did sneak a couple of pictures without actually going in the basement. Punchlist Day 1 - First Floor is almost done!

Today was an exciting day - I went over in the morning to start doing the final punchlist/inspection of the house. Really only the first floor was ready, so that's mainly what I focused on. They were finishing up more today and tomorrow and so I will go over on the weekend to do the rest. I was so excited to share, that I commandeered the beginning of our work monthly management meeting this morning to share photos. Everyone at work has been following this project, so they were all excited to see it. I wanted to share with all of you, too!!! The living room floors are refinished, walls are smooth, and we have beautiful new baseboards! (they aren't that yucky brown anymore!!) The living room looking the other way.
