Week 14 & 15 - More rough-in and insulation!

I apologize for slacking so much on posts. The last few weeks have been crazy busy at work and getting ready for Christmas always takes more time than you think it will.

The two weeks before Christmas were  heavy on ductwork and wiring. The concrete pad in the back was demolished and replaced with gravel for the new shed.



Here's a tour through the house, starting with the living room.

The further away hole is where we have the leak from the upstairs tub. They are suppose to fix that as part of this project. You can also just make out the lines marking the new recessed lights here.

A tour around the former dining and expanded kitchen area...

The old dining room. The door is temporary until the addition gets closed up. Then that whole opening will be open.

The north wall of the kitchen. The old door will be a pass-through window.

The wet wall of the kitchen. Sink will be in almost the same place.

Continuing around clockwise to the whole east wall.

The old staircase there in the middle is now full of ductwork.

From the new dining room, looking northwest. That whole wall that's plastic right now is going to be windows!

This is the duct up to the living/dining room.

Duct there in the middle for the bathroom exhaust. Easier to put it there in the wall above the toilet than in the ceiling.

that was all from the weekend before Christmas. I went over mid-week before we went to Williamsburg the weekend before New Years and they had started putting in the insulation. Here are a few photos of that.

Framing goes FAST!

This week was all about the framing. The addition is mostly framed out, the skylights arrived, and the windows and doors have finally been ordered. This is what it looked like on Friday. 8 am on Friday! Temporary flooring  Skylights! Turned out that the curb mounted ones are bigger than the deck mounted ones, so we can only fit two of them. Anyone in the market fo a 22x70 skylight? I can sell it to you for 40% off! That flooring there in the middle is the landing/mudroom area Around 11 am on Friday. Around 1:30 on Friday I worked from home yesterday (Friday) because I had a morning meeting with the cabinet subcontractor and then just a general meeting with the contractor. Because I was home, I ended up going over over there a couple more times, to clarify the skylight locations (we had to reduce it from 3 to 2) and talk with the door/window sub to clarify some things. Week 24 - It's the little things

Week 24: February 25 - March 1 This week was all about the little things...and the backyard. We decided to do a change order to get the backyard done because we figured it made sense to do it now, rather than leave it a big, muddy mess to deal with later, and my contractor gave us a good price (I consulted with others who have done similar work, including a contractor friend). The pictures in this post are all from Thursday, 2/28, but from both the morning, when I went over to meet with the contractor, and in the evening, when I went back to see the progress. You can easily tell the difference in the lighting. I have mixed them together so that the photos are grouped by location. Let's start with the backyard. This was started on Tuesday and by Thursday morning they had already removed the soil, put down the rough gravel, the filter paper, and the smaller gravel. This area will be the planting bed.
