Week 19 - Cabinets & More Brick

I started this post last weekend and then never finished it. I'm a couple of weeks behind, but trying to catch up!

The cabinets were delivered on Thursday week before last. Went over last Saturday morning and the guys were working, doing more masonry since it was dry and a little warmer. Electrician was there to install the box outside but discovered that the brick was still wet and he couldn't drill into it yet. Doh!

Masons were out there finishing the back wall. They did the piers on the addition the day before.

The two round pipes are the dryer and bathroom exhaust. The one a the right is the electrical service connection.

These masons are pretty amazing. I am very pleased with their work. Those of you who know me well know that I have very low tolerance for bad pointing!


The house is full of boxes of cabinets!

Decided a couple days ago to go ahead and have the texture removed from the living room walls and replace the baseboard. Now the texture only exists on the stair and the upstairs hallways walls.

Ahhhhh.....smooth walls!


The contractors were doing something very noisy in the basement and I had the twins with me, so I didn't go down there. The ladders were also still mostly blocking the staircase (I think they will leave them there until they paint the ceiling) .

Now I have to pick light fixtures, ceiling fans, and cabinet hardware.

Weekend before Saha and I picked paint colors and kitchen backsplash tile.

Framing goes FAST!

This week was all about the framing. The addition is mostly framed out, the skylights arrived, and the windows and doors have finally been ordered. This is what it looked like on Friday. 8 am on Friday! Temporary flooring  Skylights! Turned out that the curb mounted ones are bigger than the deck mounted ones, so we can only fit two of them. Anyone in the market fo a 22x70 skylight? I can sell it to you for 40% off! That flooring there in the middle is the landing/mudroom area Around 11 am on Friday. Around 1:30 on Friday I worked from home yesterday (Friday) because I had a morning meeting with the cabinet subcontractor and then just a general meeting with the contractor. Because I was home, I ended up going over over there a couple more times, to clarify the skylight locations (we had to reduce it from 3 to 2) and talk with the door/window sub to clarify some things. Week 24 - It's the little things

Week 24: February 25 - March 1 This week was all about the little things...and the backyard. We decided to do a change order to get the backyard done because we figured it made sense to do it now, rather than leave it a big, muddy mess to deal with later, and my contractor gave us a good price (I consulted with others who have done similar work, including a contractor friend). The pictures in this post are all from Thursday, 2/28, but from both the morning, when I went over to meet with the contractor, and in the evening, when I went back to see the progress. You can easily tell the difference in the lighting. I have mixed them together so that the photos are grouped by location. Let's start with the backyard. This was started on Tuesday and by Thursday morning they had already removed the soil, put down the rough gravel, the filter paper, and the smaller gravel. This area will be the planting bed.
